Introducing Bradley Beets, 2008 Marshall Scholarship Winner at Guitar-X

Hello, my name is Bradley Beets. I’m a 16 year old guitarist and I’ve been playing for about two years. This year I won the Marshall scholarship at Guitar-X, part of Tech Music Schools, to study the One Year Diploma in Guitar Performance.

I feel very fortunate and lucky to have won the scholarship because I feel that Guitar-X is the one and only place that can help me with my music career and training. I believe I’m one of the youngest to study here as well as being the youngest person to be awarded the scholarship, so I feel very fortunate.

The thing that made me so sure that I wanted to study at Guitar-X was the staff & teachers here! I had been coming for a few private lessons before applying for the scholarship and the staffs were always more than willing to help and answer whatever questions I had, even if they were obvious and could have been annoying. The guys in the office were also very friendly and like I said willing to help. The Guitar teachers who took me for my private lessons were also great as they listened to what I’ve done with other teachers, what I already knew and what I wanted to learn. They were also more than willing to answer my questions about the guitar, in and out of the lessons, and they were serious yet laid back about their music. I remember having a conversation with John Wheatcroft (head of Guitar at Guitar-X) about AC/DC right after our lesson and he was happy chatting with me about them even though it was out of my allocated time. If a teacher can talk to me about AC/DC, it just makes my learning more fun and enjoyable!

I’m looking forward to studying as I’ll meet new people, hopefully many with the same musical interests as me. I’m just excited in general as I know I’m going to have a blast learning what I love the most, which is music & guitar.
