Lee Hodgson is a well known country guitar specialist, who has also enjoyed chart success with a number of jazz, funk, pop and soul sessions in his time. He is an International demonstrator for Vox amps (inc. Tonelab) and Yamaha guitars, a Guitar Institute teacher, writer & assessor, a columnist and author, and has his own ‘channel’ at licklibrary.com

So what’s your drink of choice at 11am in the morning?

Tea or water.

Which song/album really made you want to play guitar?

Can’t remember! Maybe Beatles For Sale… It was probably Santana’s Abraxas that got me going…

Who’s the world’s greatest guitarist?

Technically, Guthrie Govan. Overall, Tommy Emmanuel.

Who’s the world’s most underrated guitarist?

Sol Philcox perhaps.

So what are you up to at the moment?

Teaching mainly – at the Guitar Institute (part of the ICMP). Still making quite a few tutorial DVDs for Lick Library. Gigging with a rock’n’roll/60s band (not really doing any country gigs at the moment although I did do some UK country festivals throughout 2007). Also, just started doing promotional activities for Vox/ToneLab (I did Music Live and a few in-store demos recently).

How many guitars do your own and which one is ‘your precious’?

Three electric and one steel-string acoustic. My ‘precious’ is a Fret-King Corona 60SP (personally assembled by Trev Wilkinson).

What’s the last great album that you bought (or were given)?

The Eagles’ Hotel Califonia.

Do you suffer from stage fright?

No.
